Free! Gospel Project 2009/10

‘You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.’ John 8:32

The concept of FREE! Gospel Project stems from a heart-felt conviction that it is the Gospel and the Word of God which has the power to transform lives and to save students, rather than events or activities.

TCS Staff in Central Thailand have worked in partnership with OMF and IBS to produce a new student-friendly Gospel portion in modern Thai. We have also produced bible study materials for not-yet believers, new believers and Christians in small groups, tracts, evangelistic talks, a CD and prayer cards.

The aim is for Christian students to know and love this Gospel for themselves so that they are confident to share it with others. The Christian students themselves are the ones to put the Gospels in the hands of their friends through events and special activities as well as informal conversations. This means that the students are given encouragement and impetus to focus their energies on creative evangelism appropriate to their campus over one academic year.

The project is not a one-off event nor is it a prescriptive list of events that every group or church has to follow. Rather resources and materials are made available, training is offered and participants are asked to think carefully about how they will use the resources.  The aim is to equip and enthuse students and churches for personal, regular and varied evangelism.

In Central Thailand we have already run two small scale ‘mini’ Gospel Projects in 2004 and 2007 and have seen real lasting fruit both in the lives of the Christian students and their friends. It has been thrilling to see Christian students growing in their love for God and their ability to handle God’s Word. Student who have come to faith through the Gospel Projects have been well-grounded in their faith and have had a natural bent towards reading and studying the Scriptures after conversion.

While we envisage needing 8,000 copies for evangelism amongst Central Thailand students we would love to see this Project being used more widely throughout Thailand. We have therefore tried to keep the cost of resources to a minimum. Gifts from a Youth Conference and several churches in the UK and generous partnership from a number of different organizations within Thailand have enabled us produce large quantities of high quality resources which we praise God for.
